Kangaamiut, with its over 360 inhabitants is one of Greenland’s biggest settlements. Here, there are plenty of opportunities to go on fishing trips or to go hunting. The region is rich in whales. You can take a whale safari by sea kayak or by boat. You can also take a walk in the village and meet some of the many local artists who live there.
The village’s first museum opened in May 2011 and the first exhibition was a display of photos showing Kangaamiut in olden days.
Not far from Kangaamiut lies the beautiful Evighed Fjord. The fjord is 100 kilometres long. It owes its name (Forever Fjord) to the fact that, just as you think you have reached the end of the fjord, it goes on, seemingly forever. The landscape changes between perpendicular cliffs and a long series of glaciers. The settlement of Illut was inhabited up until 1854 and the renowned Greenlandic prophet Habakuk lived here at the end of 1700.
